It consists of a propeller mounted in a tunnel at the bow or stern of the vessel, perpendicular to the direction of travel. Transverse tunnel thrusters can be either fixed pitch or controllable pitch, and can be mounted in a tunnel at either the bow or stern of the vessel, depending on the application and vessel requirements. They are typically used in larger vessels, such as cargo ships and cruise liners, where maneuverability is important for docking and maneuvering in ports.
