Zinc Ribbon Sacrificial Anode

Zinc Ribbon Sacrificial Anode

1. Description

Zinc Ribbon Sacrificial Anode is a type of cathodic protection device used to prevent corrosion of metal structures in various marine environments. It is a long, flat, and flexible strip of pure zinc that is typically wrapped around the metal structure to be protected. The ribbon anode works by corroding preferentially to the metal it is protecting, sacrificing itself to prevent the metal from corroding.

When the zinc ribbon anode is in contact with the metal structure and immersed in seawater, an electrochemical reaction occurs, resulting in the flow of electrical current from the anode to the metal structure. This current causes the zinc anode to corrode, which prevents the metal structure from corroding. The zinc ribbon anode is designed to corrode slowly and evenly over time, providing long-term protection against corrosion.

2. Application:

Zinc ribbon anodes are commonly used to protect ship hulls, offshore platforms, pipelines, and other underwater structures that are exposed to seawater or other corrosive environments. They are preferred over other types of anodes because of their flexibility, ease of installation, and durability.
