Why use gaskets for structural steel screws?
① If the base material is very soft, then the surface of the base motherboard material can be damaged during the screwing in of bolts or screws. By using a gasket, this squeezing force can be distributed over a larger area and damage to the surface of the base plate can be avoided.
② If the
substrate material is very soft and damage has occurred around the perimeter of
the hole in which the fastener is installed, then pull-through failure may
occur during screwing of the fastener. This is because in most cases the force
applied during tightening is sufficient to pull the fastener through the mother
plate of the material, and the presence of a gasket helps to create a lesser
amount of pressure.
③ When the surface of the mother plate into which the
bolts or screws are screwed is not smooth and flat enough, the head of the
fastener is likely to be stuck, and by using the gasket, it is possible to
ensure that the surface of the bolts or screws slides and make the installation
easier.
