Stud Link Anchor Chain
Introduction:
According to link type, anchor chains can be divided into two types, stud link anchor chain and studless link anchor chain. Compared with the studless link anchor chain, the stud link anchor chain has larger tensile strength, smaller deformation when being under stress and not easily get entangled when being piled up.
Anchor Chain Inspection:
Regular inspection of anchor chains is essential to ensure their reliability and safe operation. Here are some key steps to follow when inspecting an anchor chain:
Clean the chain: Before inspecting the chain, it should be cleaned to remove any dirt, debris, or marine growth that could obscure damage or defects.
Check the links: Each link in the chain should be checked for signs of wear, damage, or deformation. This includes looking for cracks, bending, twisting, or elongation of the links. Any damaged or worn links should be marked for repair or replacement.
Check the shackles: The shackles used to connect the chain to the anchor and the vessel should also be inspected for damage or wear. This includes checking for cracks, corrosion, or deformation. Any damaged shackles should be replaced immediately.
Check the swivels: If the chain includes a swivel, it should be inspected for damage or wear. This includes checking for cracks or bending in the swivel body or pins.
Check the chain markings: The chain should be checked to ensure that it is properly marked with its grade, size, and manufacturer. If the markings are missing or illegible, the chain should be replaced.
Measure the chain length: The length of the chain should be measured to ensure that it matches the vessel's specifications. If the chain has become elongated or shortened, it may need to be replaced.
Check the chain tension: The chain should be tensioned properly to ensure it is not too loose or too tight. This can be done using a tension gauge or by manually checking the slack in the chain.
By following these steps, you can help ensure the safe and reliable operation of your anchor chain. It's also important to refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific inspection recommendations based on the type and size of your anchor chain.
