Y Type Strainer
1. Introduction
Y-type strainer is a type of filtration device used in pipelines to remove unwanted solid particles from flowing liquids or gases. It is named after its shape, which resembles the letter "Y." The strainer consists of a cylindrical body with an inlet and an outlet, and a removable screen or filter element positioned inside the body.
The operation of a Y-type strainer is relatively simple. The fluid enters the strainer through the inlet and flows into the cylindrical chamber. Inside the chamber, the fluid encounters the screen or filter element, which is designed to trap and collect solid particles, debris, or other contaminants present in the fluid. The clean fluid then exits the strainer through the outlet.
The screen or filter element is typically made of a perforated metal or mesh material with precise openings. The size of the openings can vary depending on the application and the desired level of filtration. The strainer is designed to capture particles larger than the openings, preventing them from passing through and potentially causing damage or clogging downstream equipment such as pumps, valves, or meters.
2.Application
Y-type strainers are commonly used in various industries, including chemical processing, oil and gas, water treatment, power generation, and manufacturing. They are typically installed in pipelines before sensitive equipment to protect them from damage and ensure the smooth operation of the system.
3.Material
(1). - Body: cast steel
(2). - Bonnet: cast steel
(3). - Strainer: cast steel
(4). - Gasket: non-asbestos
4.Features
One of the advantages of using a Y-type strainer is its compact design, which makes it suitable for installations where space is limited. Additionally, the removable screen or filter element allows for easy maintenance and cleaning. When the strainer becomes clogged with accumulated particles, it can be shut off, the body can be opened, and the screen can be cleaned or replaced.
