Basket Type Strainer
1. Description
Basket type strainer is a filtration device used in pipelines to remove solid particles from flowing liquids. It is called a "basket" strainer because it contains a removable basket or mesh screen that captures and retains the particles. Basket strainers are commonly used in industrial applications where higher flow rates and larger particle sizes need to be handled compared to other types of strainers.
The construction of a basket type strainer typically consists of a cylindrical body with an inlet and an outlet, similar to a Y-type strainer. Inside the body, there is a basket that holds the filter element. The basket is usually made of perforated metal or wire mesh material, which allows the fluid to pass through while retaining the solid particles.
The operation of a basket type strainer is straightforward. The fluid enters the strainer through the inlet and flows into the cylindrical chamber. As the fluid passes through the basket, the solid particles larger than the mesh or perforations are trapped inside the basket, preventing them from flowing downstream. The filtered fluid then exits the strainer through the outlet.
2. Application
Basket type strainers are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, power generation, wastewater treatment, and marine applications. They are installed in pipelines to protect pumps, compressors, valves, heat exchangers, and other sensitive equipment from damage caused by solid particles.

4. Features
Basket type strainers offer several advantages. The removable basket makes maintenance and cleaning easier since it can be easily taken out for cleaning or replacement of the filter element. The larger surface area of the basket allows for higher flow rates and better particle-holding capacity compared to other strainer designs. Basket strainers are also suitable for applications that involve larger particles or debris.
