Marine Shaft Sealing Apparatus

Marine Shaft Sealing Apparatus

Application

Marine shaft sealing apparatus is an essential component of a vessel's propulsion system, as it prevents water from entering the engine room and keeps the lubricating oil inside the shaft housing. The sealing apparatus is typically located at the stern tube, which is the part of the ship that connects the propeller shaft to the hull. There are several types of marine shaft sealing apparatus, including lip seals, mechanical seals, and packing glands. Lip seals are the most common type and consist of a flexible rubber or plastic seal that fits tightly around the propeller shaft. Mechanical seals are more complex and consist of two rotating surfaces that create a seal by pressing against each other. Packing glands are the oldest type of sealing apparatus and consist of braided fibers that are wrapped around the propeller shaft and compressed to create a seal.
