Marine Mooring Capstan
Application
A marine mooring capstan is a type of deck machinery that is commonly used on ships and boats for mooring operations. It is a mechanical device that uses a rotating drum to wind or unwind ropes, cables, or chains used to secure a vessel to a dock, buoy, or other mooring point. According to the power type, there are mainly electric mooring capstan, hydraulic mooring capstan. The electric mooring capstan can be delivered with a one, two or three speed electric motor. The hydraulic mooring capstan can realize the stepless control of the capstan head by hydraulic or frequency driven capstans.
According to shaft center line orientation, there are vertical mooring capstan and horizontal mooring capstan. Material type of mooring rope will influence capstan drum size, fair-lead type and bending radius, occupied deck space and so on. It’s advised to choose the suitable mooring rope material according to strength, elasticity, durability and operating performance. According to material and diameter of the rope, mooring capstans can be designed and produced to suit different types of ships.
